GREENSBORO – After the Guilford County Sheriff's Office charged two teenagers with animal cruelty, the dog involved in the video that landed the teens those charges is slowly recovering.
The dog had been placed with a rescue organization after video of the incident surfaced on social media.
In the video, a teenager used a spray can and a lighter to singe the fur of the dog – now called “Bella.”
Now, Veterinarian Dr. Janine Oliver says, she’s learning to trust people again. Bella was supposed to be fostered out, but Oliver says she’s more nervous than expected around children and other dogs.
Bennessere Animal Hospital took the dog back in – and is working to rehabilitate and train her. Dr. Oliver says the girls in the video mildly singed Bella’s fur, but there were no major signs of burning.
