Guilford Metro 911 Celebrates National Telecommunications Week

Guilford Metro 911 is celebrating with activities designed to recognize its employees from April 8-14.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Guilford Metro 911 is celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.

It's annual event that honors those who respond to emergency calls and dispatch emergency professionals during a time of crisis.

An awards ceremony was held on Monday at the Guilford Metro 911 Justice Complex.

It honored the Telecommunicator of the Year, Support Person of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

The awards recognized the honorees' dedication to 9-1-1, being a team player, and doing an outstanding job serving field responders and residents.

"It is my honor and pleasure to be recognizing the outstanding performances our employees achieved throughout the year," says GM 9-1-1 Director Melanie Neal. "This year we are honoring the 51 lives saved by telecommunicators who provided callers with CPR instructions. This is the most life saves we have ever had in one year."

Guilford Metro 9-1-1 is a consolidated 911 Public Safety Answering Point serving all of Greensboro and Guilford County.

The center has about 130 employees and operates in 12-hour shifts.

Employees are responsible for answering and processing all 911 calls, dispatching law enforcement, fire service, emergency management, and emergency medical calls throughout Guilford County.

The center handled more than 764,000 telephone transactions, 427,000 dispatches, and nearly 3.1 million radio transmissions in 2017.
