The long weekend kicks off the holiday shopping season when shoppers will each spend an average of nearly $1,000 dollars.
Some big retailers opened on Thanksgiving Day to give shoppers an early start.
But not everyone loves shopping during the holiday season.
According to a CBS News poll, about 4 in 10 dread the Black Friday weekend.
The poll also shows that women are more enthusiastic about shopping for the holidays than men.
