Sherlock 5K Dog Walk & Fun Run Benefits Earlier Breast Cancer Detection

The Sherlock 5K raises breast cancer awareness and helps find a test for the earlier detection of breast cancer.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- You don't have to wait until October to get the conversation started, we're putting breast cancer awareness on your calendar now. We know people start gearing up for events in October, but there's one this weekend that involves survivors, supporters and even your pups.

The Sherlock 5K is this Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Country Park in Greensboro.

Martha Kaley, the founder of Earlier.org, Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test named the event after her dog Sherlock, who she says saved her life.

"My chocolate lab Sherlock's playful scratch led me to the detection of my breast cancer. Just three months before Sherlock accidentally scratched me, my mammogram was reported as clear," explained Kaley. "The event raises important research funding for Earlier.org so that we can detect breast cancer even earlier."

Sherlock has since passed away, but Martha thought having an event in his name would be the perfect way to honor her best friend and raise awareness and critical research funding for breast cancer.

The event includes a 5K walk and run, and plenty of events for the whole family, including the 4-legged ones! You can help breast cancer survivors this Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Country Park in Greensboro.

Registration is free but donations are appreciated. All proceeds benefit Earlier.org, Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test. And don't forget to bring your support, your families and your pups.
