Highway Patrols from across the country want to see no deaths on Interstate 40 this holiday weekend.

With Thanksgiving being one of the most heavily-traveled holidays of the year, the North Carolina Highway Patrol is one of several agencies taking on the I-40 'Thanksgiving Challenge.' The patrol's Facebook page says the challenge is a initiative that pushes for a zero fatality rate for the eight-state, 2,555-mile stretch of I-40.

The challenge has NC, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California placing troopers at least every 20 miles on I-40 from Wednesday to Sunday during the most heavily-traveled periods. The Highway Patrol says NC had no deaths on I-40 last year during a similar 2-day campaign.
