UNC Fans Shell Shocked After Upset

"Not a great game, early exit in the tournament. My brother is a Duke fan, so I've already got a lot of crap from him. Disappointing end to the season I would say," said Jacob Spence, a freshman at UNC.

Eerily quiet in the streets of Chapel Hill tonight, as fans try to deal with that devastating loss.

It wasn't just the loss itself, but it was really how the Heels lost that hit home with the fans.

They aren't used to being blown out by 20 points in the first weekend of the tournament -- or really ever -- and you could see it on their faces.

"I'm feeling devastated, honestly.," said Sujay Vallapalli, a freshman at UNC.

"Not a great game, early exit in the tournament. My brother is a Duke fan, so I've already got a lot of crap from him. Disappointing end to the season I would say," said Jacob Spence, a freshman at UNC.

Me personally, it hurts but -- I just got into nursing school recently so I've got two more years left, so I can't be too hurt about it," said Tony Siano, a senior at UNC.

The fans in Chapel Hill -- say this one hurts, because -- this just doesn't happen here.

"Uhm. Well we expected to win. We expect to win every game as a Tar Heel, but...," said Vallapalli.

"I did not expect this. I knew Texas A&M was a big team, and we've struggled with that. But I definitely didn't expect a 20 point loss. Maybe a close loss, but not a blowout," said Spence.

But at the end of the day, fans knew it was going to be hard to follow up the incredible end to the season the Heel's had last year -- with a National Championship.

"No matter how this year ended, I remember April 3, 2017. Right at that spot right there. I remember running from Country Fried Duck right to that spot. And you know what -- it is what it is," said Siano.

While this loss absolutely hurts tonight, Chapel Hill fans are not worried about comes next because you have to remember, this is North Carolina, and they will be back. With Roy Williams at the helm, and a good recruiting class again next year -- Chapel Hill fans know their future is still very bright.
