Carolina Basketball Signs 3 To Letters Of Intent

Rechon Black (Concord, N.C.), Nassir Little (Orange Park, Fla.) and Coby White (Goldsboro, N.C.) signed National Letters of Intent today to attend the University of North Carolina and play men’s basketball for the Tar Heels.

CHAPEL HILL – Rechon Black (Concord, N.C.), Nassir Little (Orange Park, Fla.) and Coby White (Goldsboro, N.C.) signed National Letters of Intent today to attend the University of North Carolina and play men’s basketball for the Tar Heels.

“These three young men make my staff and me feel very fortunate and pleased with this class,” says Carolina head coach Roy Williams.

Black is from Concord, N.C., and attends Cox Mill High School in Concord, where he plays for Coach Jody Barbee.

“Rechon (RAY-shon) is a youngster who committed to us as a high school sophomore,” says Williams. “He’s a versatile player who can play multiple positions. Rechon’s grown to almost 6-8, but he can play point guard. His greatest skill is understanding the game. He’s a great passer who is always trying to get others involved. He keeps getting bigger and stronger, so we have no idea what position he will play because he’s so versatile and he keeps growing so much. He truly has a tremendous future. He’s a young man who comes from a great family that values education. They are excited about him coming to North Carolina and we are excited about him coming here, as well.”

Little resides in Orange Park, Fla., and attends Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep where he plays for Coach Treig Burke.

“Nassir (nuh-SEER) is an athletic, versatile player who can play a couple of positions,” says Williams. “He has the potential to be a great scorer and a big-time defender. He can shoot the ball from the outside, he is very athletic finishing plays around the rim and just has the total package as a basketball player. He’s a wonderful kid from a wonderful family. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know them and we are excited that Nassir is joining the Carolina Basketball family.”

White lives in Goldsboro, N.C., and attends the Greenfield School in Wilson, N.C., where he plays for Coach Rob Salter.

“Coby committed to us after his sophomore year and it was one of the happiest days of my coaching career because I think he is such a wonderful prospect,” says Williams. “He’s 6-5 and can play both guard positions, can shoot the ball extremely well and is very athletic attacking the basket. He pushed the ball hard in transition and will fit in well here. He’s getting better and better defensively each year and is a complete guard. He also comes from a great family. They suffered a tragic loss this year when his father, Donald, passed away, but Coby is very close to his mom, brother and sister. He’s a great student and the kind of kid we want to have in our basketball program.”
