The Carolina Panthers announced they've released longtime running back Jonathan Stewart Wednesday. The team made the announcement on Twitter.

The 30-year-old Stewart has played with Carolina his entire NFL career, since 2008. Stewart made the Pro Bowl in 2015, the same season the Panthers made Super Bowl 50. Stewart is the franchise's all-time leading rusher and was the 13th pick in the 2008 draft.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera was quoted as saying: 'Jonathan played the game the way you want. He brought an element of toughness as a runner that set the tempo for our team. He is a great pro and I appreciate who he is as a young man and thank him for him for the contribution he made.”

The Panthers also tweeted out a 'Thank You' graphic.

The team also cut veterans Kurt Coleman and Charles Johnson this week.
