Elon, NC -- A driver struck an Elon student and left him in a ditch. That's what police tell WFMY News 2.
They say the crash happened around 7:45 am while 26-year-old Toorialey Fazley rode a bicycle to class on West Lebanon Avenue near Lee Street.
Lieutenant James Perry said the driver struck Fazley from behind, and stopped before taking off.
According to a witness, "a black female got out wearing a white top, looked at the victim, then got back in her car and drove off, travelling east and then making a right on Williamson Avenue," said Perry.
Perry also said the woman sped toward Burlington, leaving no trace of the car at the scene.
Investigators said another student biking to class found the student on the ground several minutes after the wreck, but police aren't sure how long the man was by himself.
When police arrived, Fazley could not move his legs. Perry said he suffered a spine injury.
Fazley is an Afghan native, and police expect him to be okay.
Officers are gathering leads and are looking for information from the public. Anyone who can help should call Elon police at (336) 584-1301.
A few hours earlier, a Winston-Salem State University student was walking on a sidewalk and hit by a pickup truck. The driver of the drive also didn't stop at the scene.
No arrests have been made in either case.
