McLeansville, NC -- A teenager was found dead Saturday morning after it appeared she was fatally hit by a train.
Christina Shae Brunes, 17, a senior at Eastern Guilford High School, was found dead by sheriff's deptuies at 8:28 a.m., according to a news release from the Guilford County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies found Brunes' body on the railroad tracks near the crossing over McLeansville Road near Frieden Chruch Road, said Capt. Ken Whitesell with the Sheriff's Office.
Brunes lived with her stepfather not far from the crossing on Meadow Lane Circle. He last reported seeing her around 11:30 p.m. Friday, Whitesell said.
Brunes was found on the tracks with a tent and change of clothes stuffed inside a backpack.
The investigation is ongoing, Whitesell said. The Sheriff's Office is working with Amtrak and Norfolk Southern railroad police.
Guilford County Schools tells WFMY News 2 that the District Crisis Team will be at Eastern Guilford High on Tuesday for students who need counseling after Christina's death.
A Facebook page has been started in memory of Christina for friends and loved ones to share their memories.
