Onondaga, NY -- Police say a man died while riding his motorcycle during a protest against helmet laws in upstate New York Saturday after his bike flipped and he hit his head on the pavement.
State troopers told The Post-Standard of Syracuse that 55-year-old Philip Contos of Parish, NY was driving his 1983 Harley Davidson with a group of bikers who were all protesting law requiring motorcyclists to wear helmets.
Police say Contos bike spun out of control after braking and Contos fell over the handlebars.
Contos was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead after arrival.
Troopers report Contos would have likely survived if he had been wearing a helmet.
