Lexington, NC-- Davidson County deputies arrested a man who punched a deputy, after he tried to save his brother who was drowning.
The assault happened at the Pebble Beach access area of High Rock Lake on Monday afternoon, while the deputy was patrolling the area.
According to investigators, Deputy Tim Smith was notified by a family member that a man had gone under water. Smith called for back up, and jumped in to try and rescue the person.
Sheriff Patrol boats, more deputies and the fire department's rescue squads responded and assisted in the search for the 21 year-old.
The man's body was located around 3:53 p.m. He was identified at Aaron Jamal White of Lexington.
While the body of the victim, was being recovered, his brother was overcome with emotion and punched Deputy Smith above his left eye, according the Sheriff's Office.
Chazz A. White was arrested and charged with Assault on a Government Official, Disorderly Conduct, Resist, Obstruct, and Delay an officer.
Deputy Smith was treated and released from Lexington Memorial Hospital.
