A Buncombe County couple were found in their home on Christmas Day in an apparent murder-suicide, a sheriff's detective said Friday.
The couple's son found the bodies of Daisey Sluder, 57, and her 62-year-old husband, David, in the living room of their home in Alexander, Detective David Shroat said.
Investigators believe David shot his wife and then himself Wednesday night, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported on its Web site Friday.
Shroat said he doesn't know what led to the shooting, but the couple had a history of martial problems.
They separated about seven months ago and had been back together "on and off" for about a month, Shroat said.
The couple's son saw the two about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
"He said they were both in a good mood," Shroat said.
The son found the bodies about noon Thursday.
Shroat didn't return phone messages Friday from The Associated Press.
