Made In The Triad: Dogwood Hill Salsa

Haw River, NC -- The concoction of ingredients in Dogwood Hill Tomato Salsa came about thanks in part to a desire to not let any good thing go to waste.

"We were growing seasonal vegetables and you have to do something with the ones you don't sell at the farmers market," said Mushrooms-N-More President Eric Dunlap.

So Dunlap and his wife did the next best thing: "We started making tomato salsa."

We can't give away all of the company's secrets, but there's a dash of this, a dash of that, some tomatoes, onions and some fresh cilantro.

The company now sells its salsa to 45 stores across North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia.

Super Bowl week is the second biggest week for the local salsa maker. The biggest week? Christmas.
