Anderson, SC-- Emergency Responders confirm that at least one person is dead after a plane crash Friday in South Carolina.
An Official on the scene told WSPA that there was on fatality after the single engine plane crashed at the end of the runway at the Anderson Regional Airport.
Taylor Jones with Anderson County Emergency Services says the plane landed at the airport and one person got out. Jones tell WSPA that the pilot went to take off and the plane crash landed near the end of runway 17.
Jones said when two people ran to rescue the pilot inside the fiery cockpit but was able to save the him. One of those had to be treated for burns at a local hospital.
The group were at the airport practicing landings on recent occasions, according to airport officials.
Corner Greg Shore says the pilot, who is not being identified at this time, was from Cincinnati, OH and has property in Hendersonville. He picked up his best friend, also of Cincinnati, and was working on his second approach by himself and as he jerked the plane and went off the runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the crash happened around 1 p.m. when a Cirrus aircraft went off the end of the runway.
