Reidsville, NC -- Deputies are searching for a Reidsville man who they say assaulted his estranged wife, barricaded himself in his home and later escaped.
Officers say Curtis Lee Smalls locked himself in his home after the attack, and Sheriff's negotiators tried to make him surrender.
During the negotiation, a family member said he had been in contact with Smalls and that he was threatening to harm himself.
Officers entered the home at 1:30am because Smalls had stopped communicating with negotiators. When they made it inside, they found that Smalls had somehow left the home.
Deputies think Smalls left before they arrived to the scene. The family member who said Smalls was planning to harm himself later admitted he gave officers false information.
Anyone with information on Curtis Smalls' whereabouts should call the Rockingham County Sheriff's office at (336) 634-3232 or Crimestoppers at (336) 349-9683.
Update: Deputies arrested Smalls June 26 after he turned himself in to the Sheriff's office. He is under a domestic hold and will go before a District Court judge sometime June 27.
