Dunn, NC-- A North Carolina Mayor is tired of seeing underwear of people who won't pull their pants up.
Dunn Mayor Pro Tem Carnell Robinson told WRAL sagging pants are bringing down the city's image.
And his answer to the problem...Robinson wants to implement an ordinance prohibiting sagging pants.
According to WRAL, under Robinson's proposal, the first two violations would result in a warning. The third time, violators could face a fine of up to $200.
Robinson said Wednesday that he believes sagging or baggy pants shows disrespect. For him, the ordinance is a way to re-establish some standards in the community.
He says that higher community standards will result in lower crime. In Robinson's eyes, saggy pants "is part of a culture that breeds drug sales, drug addictions, crime and murder," Robinson said. "That is not what I want for our community", he told the station.
The proposal will be up for discussion at the Dunn City Council's August meeting.
