Charlotte, NC -- Police say an officer shot and killed a mentally ill man who charged at officers with garden shears Friday.
The shooting happened after police responded to a call at the man's grandmother's house. A spokesperson said everything started when the woman locked herself inside her home and called a mental health worker for help with her grandson.
The worker called police, and when they arrived, they saw the grandson in the garage. He grabbed the garden shears and charged at the officers.
Police say an officer tried using a Taser first, but it didn't work. A second officer then fired at the man, shooting him in the stomach.
Police have not identified the man or the officer who shot him.
