Winston-Salem, NC -- Police are investigating a car accident that killed one person and sent five others to the hospital Monday.
Officers responded to the collision at the intersection of Butler Street and Reynolds Park Road at 4:20 p.m.
The wreck involved two cars--a 1986 Pontiac Bonneville and a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. Police say the driver of the Bonneville, Travis Judon Huntley, ran a stop sign, hit the Malibu, and both cars ran into the front yard of a home on Reynolds Park Road.
Huntley died as a result of the accident.
His passenger, a 3-year-old, was treated and released from a hospital.
There were four people in the second car. The driver, 36-year-old Susana Rocio Mercado, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The front seat passenger, Omar Mercado, 24, is in critical condition, also. Aurora Perez, 22, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. And, a one-month-old was treated and released from a hospital.
Police say alcohol and speed were both factors in the fatal accident.
The department's Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating.
