Durham, N.C. - WFMY News 2 has learned, from our CBS affiliate WRAL, that Durham authorities responded to an explosion on the sixth floor of Durham Regional Hospital early Tuesday morning, a spokeswoman with the hospital confirmed.
One patient was killed and three other patients were injured.
No information about the cause of the explosion was available, but authorities responded to the initial call about 2 a.m.
The sixth floor houses Select Specialty Hospital, a separate facility that specializes in long-term acute care for patients who have longer stays in the facility.
No patients were evacuated because of the explosion, officials said, but some have been moved to other parts of the hospital.
Information about possible injuries wasn't immediately available.
