COLUMBIA, SC (WLTX) -- Kristoff St. John has been a staple on The Young and the Restless for the past 22 years.
Meeting Kristoff face to face, you realize he's nothing like the all serious Neil Winters character he plays on the show. "You may not know this but I am a man of many talents. Yes, that's right. I do janitorial work. I also do hair and makeup (laughs) not really," joked Kristoff.
Since 1990, Kristoff has played a major role in daytime's number one drama. Embracing the role of Neil, Kristoff says he hopes he's setting a good example for others.
"Man I get people coming up to me saying you 're that guy in the suit. I feel like Superman sometimes. You're that guy in the suit. Yeah brother I am and you can be in a suit too. It makes me feel good that I've been this positive role model for as long as I have been. I'm not playing a drug dealer. I'm not playing a pimp. It's not one of those stereotypical roles. This guy is articulate", smiles Kristoff.
Like many in Hollywood, Kristoff is extremely private about his time off the set. This twice married, twice divorced father of three laughs off his failures in life.
There is one wrong he is trying to make right.
After more than 20 years of not seeing or not knowing where his birth mother was, Kristoff recently found her in South Carolina.
"It's a long story, but the short of it is when I was four my parents divorced and I didn't see my mom again until I was in my early 20's. Then I lost touch with her for the next 20 years. I'm so happy to have a relationship with her again and thinking about coming to the beautiful state of South Carolina to visit her later this year", said Kristoff.
In true soap opera fashion, the reunion of Kristoff and his mom took an unexpected turn.
His mom has cancer.
Kristoff says, "We're rallying around her. I didn't expect for her to be in the shape she's in but hopefully with the help of doctors...we'll be able to get her through this period."
Kristoff plans to visit his mother before the holidays.
