Wilmington, NC-- More details have been released about a mother who tried to kill herself, her daughter and their cat.
Warrants obtained by the Wilmington Star News paints a picture of a woman who was depressed and was apologetic in her suicide notes, that have been seized as evidence.
Investigators stated in the warrants that the New Hanover County mother left several suicide notes and apparently fed her daughter and cat a poison-tainted smoothie in a failed attempt at murder-suicide in September.
Jeannie Marvel is charged with Attempted Murder and Animal Cruelty in the Sept. 9 incident at her home. She was arrested Friday, November 10 after spending two months in the hospital.
A friend found Marvel unconscious and face down on the kitchen floor of her home with her 9-year-old daughter and the family cat nearby in distress, according to an affidavit in the Sept. 20 search warrant. The friend told investigators she tried to reach Marvel unsuccessfully for five hours and decided to show up at the house.
Deputies also reported that while Marvel was unresponsive on the floor, her daughter was conscious and alert, but appeared to be under the influence of an impairing substance with slurred speech and an unsteady gait. The cat was found curled in the fetal position.
