Greensboro -- Winston Churchill said, "we make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give."
Now imagine that quote and a call from your employer saying you've been chosen to receive $1,000 with one string attached. And that is.. you have to pay it forward and do something to make your community better.
That was a challenge issued by Cone Health to 12 employees who were randomly picked. The chosen dozen's only obligation was to use the money to make their community better.
WFMY News 2 caught up with one of those workers as she honored the challenge.
"Wow...a $1000," said Cicely Alston, a Cone Health Employee. "It just popped in my head..."Rolling Ridge."
Cicely Alston who works at Annie Penn Hospital decided that her money should be used to support Equestrian Therapy organization.
"This is what it is for. This money is for the kids," said Alston.
"So, Ms. Kathryn can buy more horses, saddles and stuff for the horses," said a Rolling Ridge Rider.
The money will got to support about 50 kids at Rolling Ridge Riding in Reidsville.
"Pay it forward to me, if you start something and you really feel it in your heart. You can start a chain reaction of helping in the community because it only takes one person in the community to make a change," said Alston.
This is just one "Pay It Forward" projects out of 12 projects.
