Winston-Salem, NC -- As the day winds down, many of us are thankful to have spent it with family.
Well, one group of local student athletes didn't get to go home for the Thanksgiving. Instead, Winston-Salem State football players spent quality time with their gridiron family.
With its first-round NCAA playoff game coming up Saturday, the team stayed on campus over the holiday, and shared a special dinner Thursday night.
They're the only students on campus, but players say their time together is worth it.
"We fight together, we argue together, we win together, we lose together, so there is no better place to be in here with my teammates," said one of the players.
News 2 photojournalist Erik Arendt spent the evening with the guys as they grew even closer as a family.
