Eden, NC -- Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning accident in Rockingham County that killed one person and injured three others, according to dispatch.

The wreck happened right before 1 a.m. Sunday on Bethlehem Church Road, which is about 1.4 miles south of Eden.

The investigating trooper said the car crossed the center line, ran off the left side of the road, pulled back to the right, overturned and then hit a ditch, a tree and a fence.

Billy Dean Morton, 33, who was sitting in the left back seat, without a seat belt, was killed in the accident.

The driver and two other passengers were taken to a hospital, but their conditions are unknown at this time.

In the trooper's report, he cited "erratic, reckless, negligent or aggressive" driving as the cause of the single-car accident.

The accident is still under investigation.
