Clemmons, NC-- Carlton's Tanglewood on Clemmons Rd. is the top-selling Powerball ticket retailer in North Carolina.
On Tuesday, there was a consistent flow of people buying Powerball tickets. Among the crowd were first-timers who thought a $500-million jackpot was a good enough reason to give in and buy a ticket.
Ken Halik said, "I bought some earlier today and then now and this is the only time."
Other people at the store were regulars. They told News 2's Liz Crawford how they pick their numbers.
"We bought in New Jersey, we bought in Virginia. We bought in Pennsylvania, every stop for gas, we bought," said Christine Lendrith.
Most people used special birthdays and anniversaries. However, a few regulars said they decided to switch up their numbers, hoping this time will turn out in their favor.
In Greensboro at the All In One Stop on S. Elm Eugene St., a crowd of regulars came in all day on Tuesday to purchase Powerball tickets.
Some customers think it's a lucky spot after it sold two winning tickets in the same week in 2010.

One employee at All In One Stop said people rub a lucky ice bucket in front of the counter before buying their lottery tickets.
Both Carlton's Tanglewood in Clemmons and All In One Stop in Greensboro expect Powerball sales to be even bigger on Wednesday.
