Winston-Salem, NC -- There were candlelight, tears, and prayers Thursday evening for a woman who would have celebrated her birthday today. Instead we're asking: who killed Connie?

In November 2011, someone brutally stabbed Connie Hall and threw her body in a dumpster. So far, they've gotten away with it. Detective Greg Dorn, with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Winston-Salem Police Department said, "She was thrown away like trash. No one...I don't care if you're the worst criminal in the world. No one deserves to be treated and discarded like trash."

Hall's family reported her missing November 14th, 2011. A week later, a maintenance man found her body in that dumpster. April Hall, Connie's sister said, "She didn't deserve to die like that. She didn't deserve to be thrown away in the trash can. So I just think it's senseless. It's heartless and it's cold." Connie's mother, Maggie, said, "I've been praying to the Lord for justice to come. And I hope God will reveal the killer to us very, very soon."

Police say the dumpster where they found Connie's body is in a neighborhood, a crowded area. Police believe someone saw something. But so far, no one has come forward.

So instead of a birthday party, there was a vigil at that very crime scene, for what would have been Connie's 49th birthday.

One of the speakers at the vigil said, "Silence is not a redemptive response to needless acts of violence that tragically disrupt our families, friends, and community."

Connie's best friend, Diane Hardy read a poem at the vigil and said, "I wish she was still here with me, but somebody took that from me. I don't have the pleasure anymore of a best friend. She was truly a best friend."

The Hall family and Hardy continue to plead with anyone who may have been in the area that evening. They ask that if anyone knows something that could solve Connie's murder, that they call Winston-Salem Crimestoppers at 727-2800. You may be eligible for a cash reward.
