Stokesdale, N.C. - The pressure was much different Monday morning for Huddle House employees Ashley Morgan and Justin Plaster. As they took a break from work just before 1:00 a.m., a car raced into the parking lot.

"I thought someone got shot," Plaster said.

But, Plaster and Morgan quickly realized the woman in the car was giving birth. So, they ran to help and dialed 9-1-1. The situation was even more difficult because the couple inside the car only spoke Spanish.

"I had to use hand motions," Plaster said. "I didn't know being a doctor was in my job description."

Morgan added, "The lady, she was sitting in the car. She didn't look scared."

As they waited for the ambulance to arrive, the baby stopped crying. Plaster and Morgan realized the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck.

"I was a little scared because I thought she was dead," Morgan said.

The paramedics who drove the woman and her baby to the hospital went back to eat at the Huddle House later Monday morning. They told Morgan and Plaster the mother and her baby are doing well.

Now, the Huddle House employees can get back to worrying about their wedding instead. They got engaged last week.

The Huddle House manager told WFMY News 2 she is proud of her employees and plans to surprise them with a special reward.
