Greenville, SC -- Chaos broke out among parents lined up early to register their children for classes at one particular South Carolina elementary school. One mother was hurt.

Parents raced to enroll their students at AJ Whittenberg Elementary School, the only elementary school with an engineering program. Each year they camp out waiting to be first in line, but the competition has grown more fierce each year.

The demand to enroll in the school is forcing administrators to rethink how to accept students. They may choose a safer alternative, like a lottery.

The mother's injury wasn't serious, although she did go to the hospital, and her daughter was admitted to the school.

WFMY News 2 invited Dr. Anthony Graham, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction of the School of Education at North Carolina A&T State University, to talk about the impact elementary education can have on a child and offer suggestions for getting your child into a good elementary school.
