Stokesdale, NC-- A family television has a bullet hole in it and the boy who put it there said he was shooting at an intruder.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said that on Wednesday, around 12:45pm, they received a report that a child who was home alone had used his father's handgun to scare off an intruder.

The child who was home sick from school told Investigators that he heard the dogs outside barking and when he looked out the window, he saw a man wearing a mask armed with a handgun approaching the house.

At that moment, the boy said he went and got his father's handgun and then saw the intruder was inside the house. The child then reportedly fired a shot at the intruder, striking a TV inside the house.

According to the child, the masked intruder ran off through a field. Sheriff's Deputies, including K-9 units, conducted a detailed search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
