GRAHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Police in Graham say an 8-year-old boy walked away without serious injury after he was sent flying by a car as he crossed a road to board a school bus.

The Times-News of Burlington reports the boy was struck as he approached the stopped school bus, which had its stop arm extended and warning lights flashing.

Officers said the boy was thrown over the car's hood, roof and trunk, then jumped up and began talking almost immediately after Wednesday morning's accident.

Police charged 26-year-old Crystal Lashawn Clay with passing a stopped school bus and careless and reckless driving.

Graham police Capt. Steve McGilvray said police have stepped up patrols in school zones following complaints in recent weeks about drivers passing stopped school buses.
