Gaza City, Gaza Strip -- Thousands of Palestinians are expected to gather in Gaza City Saturday to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hamas militant group, the Associated Press reports.
Chief Khaled Mashaal, who returned to the strip Friday after being exiled from Palestinian territory, will speak at the event.
Hamas supporters with victory signs braved rainy weather to attend the vent. Some parents even dressed their children in military uniforms.
The celebration comes just two weeks after the most violent round of fighting between Israel and Gaza in four years.
Hamas says it was victorious in the battles because Israel agreed to an Egyptian-brokered truce instead of sending its ground troops.
