Mercer, PA -- A 7-year-old boy was accidently shot and killed outside a Pennsylvania gun store Saturday morning, CBS affiliate KDKA-TV reports.
The shooting happened around 11 a.m. outside Twigs Reloading Den in East Lackawannock Township, which is 60 miles north of Pittsburgh.
The boy's father, Joseph Loughrey, 44, told police he went inside to sell his .9 mm gun, and as he got back into the pickup truck while holding the gun, it fired.
His son was in his booster seat at the time of the shooting. the bullet hit him in the upper right chest.
Loughrey said he had emptied the magazine, but didn't know there was still a bullet in the chamber.
Authorities found the boy laying next to the truck after a failed attempt at CPR.
Police are still investigating the incident.
