Greensboro, NC -- Many of us will get fancy new electronics for Christmas and the old ones won't get as much use. Why not donate them to places like Goodwill?

News 2 is told, it could potentially change a family's life.

Officials with Goodwill say, "Don't wait! Donate! Now is a good time to clean out closets in preparation for new holiday gifts."

Triad Goodwill's Top 10 goods that can be donated:

1. Computers: Computers can be donated at your local Triad Goodwill store and recycled via Goodwill's Dell Reconnect partnership. Be sure to delete personal data before donating.

2. Kitchenware: Get something new for the kitchen for the holidays? Gently used kitchenware can be donated at most Goodwill donation locations.

3. Video Games: Donate video games that the kids are no longer playing.

4. Books: Upgrade from paperbacks to a Kindle or iPad this year? Donate your used books.

5. CDs: You've got all your songs saved on hard drives and mp3 players, do you really need those hundreds of old CDs taking up space in the back of your closet?

6. Cell phones: Cell phones not in use are some of the fastest growing discarded electronics in America. Instead of discarding your old phone, recycle or donate it. Be sure to delete personal data before donating.

7. Household items: It's time to give that lamp a new life. Lamps, frames, vases, curios, baskets, and collectibles are just a few of the many items that you can donate to Goodwill.

8. Bikes: Yes, Goodwill and other thrift stores take big-ticket items, like bikes. When your children have outgrown their bikes, or moved on to a new one, consider donating.

9. Toys: Kids get new toys and outgrow the old ones, so let another child benefit from those gently loved items.

10. Clothes: Suits, pants, dresses and shirts. You name it, they'll take it. Donating clothes not only funds job training programs, but also provides new outfits for the job-seekers Goodwill serves.

To find your nearest donation location, visit the "Donate" tab at TriadGoodwill.org.

All donations are tax deductible, so don't wait.
