Greensboro, NC - The 37th annual TIMCO Invitational tips off Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum, providing high school players a chance to play on the big stage of the Coliseum, while also raising money for participating schools.
This year marks the first time TIMCO has sponsored the tournament, replacing Pizza Hut after their 16 year sponsorship of the tournament.
TIMCO Vice President of Industry and Government Relations Kip Blakely told News 2 the reason they decided to sponsor the tournament is to start a conversation among junior high and high schools students about careers in aviation services, a growing industry in the Triad.
The tournament has donated more than $1 million dollars to participating schools over the past decade, including four scholarships given to selected scholar athletes.
Participating schools this year are Page High School, Greensboro Day School, Northern Guilford High School, Northwest Guilford High School, Ragsdale High School, Smith High School, Grimsley High School and Northeast Guilford High School.
The tournaments starts at 1:30 pm today at the Greensboro Coliseum, and the finals are Friday night.
