Greensboro, NC - Nearly 100 weapons are off the street, thanks to Greensboro Police and the "Safe Surrender" program.
Officers collected unwanted handguns, rifles and shotguns Friday and Saturday.
In all, 95 guns were turned in. The effort began Friday, when officers collected 16 guns at three locations.
"We thought it was an excellent idea," Lt. Col. Jonathan Franks with the Greensboro Police Department said. "When we went out into the community to ask for locations, the churches ... were the first to volunteer their locations."
All guns will be checked to see if they've been reported lost or stolen and then destroyed.
