Triad -- With high pressure firmly anchored over the eastern seaboard, today will warm up quite a bit. It may feel a little like spring this afternoon as highs approach the low 60s. The rain should hold off today. Tonight will remain mild with lows only falling to the mid 40s.
The next two days will feature something we call cold air damming. That doesn't mean it will be really cold. It just means cooler air will be backed up against the mountains and unable to move. As a result, temps will back down to the upper 50s on Thursday and the low 50s on Friday. Still, keep in mind, those numbers are above average for January.
Rain will be another issue. While we should stay above freezing, frozen precipitation shouldn't be a problem. However, there could be showers or drizzle Thursday night through Friday night.
By the weekend, there should be marked improvement. Skies will be mainly cloudy but highs will be close to 70 both Saturday and Sunday.
