Greensboro, NC-- The fight to stop enforcement of video sweepstakes games in North Carolina is over. Some counties started enforcing the ban right after the new year.

Some other counties including Guilford County waited for clarification on the ruling. And after consulting with the NC Attorney General's Office and the Guilford County District Attorney's Office, the ban will be enforced in Gulford County starting Monday.

Sheriff BJ Barnes released this statement about the enforcement: "There has been a lot of confusion concerning this law both before and after the NC Supreme Court ruling just handed down. In fairness to the operators who have operated under the cover of the law before and during the appeal process, setting a time certain is fair to all. Beginning Monday, January 14, 2013, 8:00 a.m. any gaming establishment operating or participating is subject to arrest and prosecution."

The sheriff's office also said business owners have been made attempts to re-define the definition of a gaming device by changing the screens on the machines will have to take their fight to court.

Beginning at 8:00am on Monday, the Guilford County Sheriff's Office will enforce the law banning video sweepstakes activity.

Any questions concerning this law or the enforcement of the law should be directed to Major Tom Sheppard of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office at (336) 641 2495.
