Undated -- Tonight, dozens of viewers called, emailed, and posted on the WFMY News 2 Facebook page that they heard thunder and lightning during Thursday night's snow storm.

So what is thundersnow? It's an extremely rare event. The strong energy of the storm creates convection. It's associated with heavy snowfall rates. And while the snow muffles the sound of the thunder, we can all still see the lightning.

If you saw thundersnow, and caught it on video, upload it to digtriad.com or email it to myphotos@wfmy.com.
