Greensboro, NC -- Temperatures climbed above freezing Friday, melting a lot of Thursday's snow, but now all the remaining water will return to its frozen state Friday night.

The already saturated ground from a week of heavy rain left the melting snow from Thursday night no where to go. This has resulted in many areas of standing water on roads, sidewalks, parking lots and yards. While above freezing temperatures and sunny skies Friday afternoon did a lot to melt and evaporate some of the water, all of the remaining water will become a safety concern as temperatures return to below freezing.

Under a clear sky temperatures will quickly drop Friday night. By 9pm temperatures will already be around freezing. Low temperatures will be in the middle 20s early Saturday morning and remain below freezing through 9am.

Due to the widespread concern for black ice across the Triad the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Triad. This means that areas of ice on roads may make travel dangerous. This ice can be difficult to see especially at night. Motorists are urged to use extra caution when traveling through Saturday morning.

Temperatures will return to above freezing territory after 9am Saturday under mostly sunny conditions. High temperatures Saturday afternoon will be in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.
