Police said the bus was traveling west on Lexington Ave. when the driver went off the left side of the road and hit a tree shortly after 7 a.m. Police believe that the driver may have suffered from a medical condition. In fact, the driver doesn't recall anything from the accident.
High Point Police confirmed the bus driver is 54-year-old, Gwendolyn Renee Burris.
Three children and the driver were on board at the time of the accident, according to police and Guilford County Schools. Everyone complained of injury, but there were no visible signs of injury. The bus driver was the only person taken to High Point Regional for treatment.
Note: There are conflicting reports about students on the bus. Both GCS and High Point police told News 2 that three students were on the bus, but Guilford County EMS said no children were on the bus.
