Greensboro, NC --Imagine being told you have 48 hours to move out of your home -- no prior notice and no option of staying just a few days longer.

That's exactly what 30 people in Greensboro were dealing with Tuesday night.

An employee at Serenity Care, an assisted living facility in Greensboro, told WFMY News 2 when she arrived at work Tuesday afternoon, she was told the building was closing as of Friday.

She wasn't given a reason. She was only told that she was supposed to do everything she could to assist the transition of the residents.

So residents started packing. Many of them told WFMY News 2 they didn't know where they were going to go.

"I kind of got upset, I didn't know what to do," said resident Jewel Massey.

"This wasn't fair. They didn't give us any time or anything to do to prepare what we was going to have to do," said resident Trina Morton.

Some residents have lived at Serenity Care for months, others have lived there for years.

But on Tuesday, they received no letter, no list of alternatives and no reason why they're getting the boot.

"I don't know where we're going right now. Me and my husband don't know. And I'm trying to hold back tears, but I really don't know where I'm going yet. We ain't got no money and nothing else. And it's just frustrating," said Morton.

Could it be the facility is having financial trouble?

When we started digging, we found Serenity Care's management company is delinquent on their taxes.

Rosemont Residential Care, LLC owes Guilford County more than $3,854 in property taxes.

We've reached out to the owner, Larry Patton, to ask why he's closing and why such a short notice.

However, when we called the number listed for his company, it was answered by a fax machine.

We also emailed Patton and we'll be sure to bring you his answers as soon as we hear back from him.

The state has a ratings system, so we all know which facilities are better than others, per inspection.
