Jacksonville, NC-- A Jacksonville teenager is in jail under $345,000 bond after hitting a police officer, stealing his cop car, and then crashing it into a house.
Jacksonville Police told CBS Station WNCT that the crime happened after they responded to a larceny report around 8:30 a.m. According to investigators, while the Officer was putting the suspect, Thomas Robert Gibson, in the back of his cop car, he teenager jumped from the rear to the front seat of the police car, kicked it into gear, and hit the officer as he was waiting for traffic to clear.
Police said Gibson, who was still handcuffed drove the patrol car onto another street, where he lost control and hit a house. Police tell us someone was home at the time of the crash and got caught under the debris.
The person was not seriously injured, police said.
After hitting the house, police Gibson tried to run from the scene. but was tracked him down and took him into custody. He's facing several charges including First Degree Attempted Murder, Larceny of Motor Vehicle and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
