Fontana Dam Water Release Creates Rainbow, Ice on Trees

For the first time in eight years, TVA is using the sluice tube at Fontana Dam to lower water levels in the reservoir.

After days of rain last week, river managers are trying to create more storage room in Fontana Lake in case of further flooding. TVA says they hope to drop lake levels by one foot per day. 

WBIR-TV Photojournalist Kevin Umberger takes us just across the state line to North Carolina, where freezing temperatures and sunny skies are creating some beautiful views as workers prepare in case there are more downpours down the road.
