Triad -- Today's high only made it to 39 degrees. That makes the third day of not getting out of the 30s. Even so, it only needs to be above 32 for ice to melt. That meant plenty of melting during the afternoon.
Here's the problem. We're headed back below freezing tonight. In fact, most places will be back below the freezing mark by midnight, if not before. Any roads with puddles now will likely have ice by later tonight or early morning.
Be extra careful when driving from now though Sunday morning.
The rest of Sunday should feature a little more sun and temperatures back in the low 40s. That means more melting will take place... hopefully along with more evaporation, so we will be in better shape by Monday morning.
The next problem is on Sunday night. There is a 30% chance of light rain. Plus temperatures will fall back below freezing. That means the possibility of light freezing rain or drizzle. We will continue to watch the situation as the weekend progresses.
Either way, there is a warm up in store for next week. Highs will be in the 60s Tuesday and Wednesday.
