Charlotte, NC (WCNC) -- A North Carolina mom grew frustrated with the unhealthy snack choices for her kids so, she got healthy vending machines put in her neighborhood.

Patti Moore said she thought her family ate healthy until her daughter developed a food allergy. That's when Patti started paying attention to food labels.

She saw most foods her family ate contained lots of fructose corn syrup, transfats, artificial coloring and flavorings.

"We had this sort of revelation that wow, we really need to look closer in to the things we're eating and we can do better for our family and then it was sort of a greater purpose, you know, we can do better in Charlotte," Patti said.

Patti became a vendor for Human Healthy vending last August. She said the machines sell unprocessed snacks and are a success.

"The sugary choices for normal vending machines are just not appealing and you don't want to undo all the work."

Patti has helped put eight healthy vending machines across the Charlotte area.
