Burlington, NC -- A Burlington man hit the jackpot in the North Carolina Education lottery, but he does not plan on spending the money.
Christopher Shotwell's week started with the birth of his first child and ended with him winning $100,000 in the lottery. Shotwell, a local mechanic, says he will set aside his Mega Bucks winnings to support his son's future.
Shotwell says he scratched off the $5 ticket in his truck Saturday and was shocked by what he found.
"I did a double take," Shotwell said. "I just couldn't believe my eyes. It's been a crazy week. I'm pretty excited."
Shotwell took home $68,001 after state and federal taxes. He purchased his lucky ticket at the Highway 49 Neighborhood Store on N.C. 49 North in Burlington.
As of Monday afternoon, six top prizes of $100,000 and many other prizes remain unclaimed in the game.
