Stoneville, NC -- A 3-year-old was killed in an auto accident Tuesday morning in Rockingham County, according to Highway Patrol.
Trooper Greg Ingram says a 1998 Oldsmobile minivan was heading north on Snead Road around 11:30 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Investigators say the driver, 18-year-old Juan Antonio Garcia, drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected to the left, and drove back to the right before flipping the van into a ditch.
There were three children--a 1-, 3- and 5-year-old--in the last row of seats. Ingram says 3-year-old Dillon Scott was in a booster seat, but was not properly restrained. He and the seat were ejected during the accident.
Ingram says the van rolled onto Scott, pinning him underneath. The child died on the scene.
There were two other passengers in the car at the time. The driver and four passengers were transported to Moses Cone Hospital with minor injuries.
Garcia has been charged with misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, No Operator's License and Child Restraint Violations.
