Asheville, NC (ACT) - A suspended Asheville City Schools teacher sexually stimulated himself and a child as they watched pornography, according to a search warrant application filed by a city police detective. A sex worker was also found in possession of one of the teacher's payroll checks, according to the application.
The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office has already charged Aaron Paul Cook, 29, of Asheville, with two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. Asheville police detective Amanda Buchanan executed a search warrant at Vance Elementary School, seeking information for any child Cook had contact with in an official capacity or for extracurricular activity, as well as Cook's personnel and payroll records and information about a camp in which Cook was involved.
"In my training and experience people who sexually assault children put themselves in places to be around children," Buchanan wrote. "Any activity that Aaron Cook participated in involving children could be the source of other victims not yet identified."
The District Attorney's Office and law enforcement met Tuesday night with parents of Cook's students. Last month, District Attorney Ron Moore sent a letter to parents whose children were in Cook's second-grade class asking them not to question students about the teacher.
Cook's payroll check was found in possession of a sex worker and returned to the school system, according to the "facts to establish probable cause" section of the search warrant application.
Buchanan also sought emails sent to and received from Cook and principal Carrie Allen. "Carrie Allen has received email communication from parents and personnel from central office in regards to Cook. Those emails contain information relevant to the investigation."
