Baltimore, MD (WJZ) -- A Baltimore jury has found the man accused of killing 16-year-old honor student Phylicia Barnes guilty of second-degree murder.

Shortly after the verdict came down around 11:30 a.m., family members of Phylicia Barnes were seen hugging in the courtroom hallway.

Tuesday marked Michael Johnson's 29th birthday. He was hoping the jury would give him the gift of freedom.

The Barnes family waited patiently, hoping for a guilty verdict. They got their wish.
WJZ spoke to Phylicia's father Russell Barnes, who says he is thrilled with the verdict.  He says his daughter can now rest in peace.
City State's Attorney Gregg Bernstein says he is confident in this victory.
